The AI risk agent for South African contracts

Catch the clause that would have cost you, before you sign it.

Redline is an AI agent that reads every contract, scores clauses against South African law, and flags what to check.

The Redline desktop app reviewing a sample Master Services Agreement: a 47.5 out of 100 medium risk score, a clause breakdown of three high, two medium and four low, and a flagged auto-renewal clause cited to the Consumer Protection Act section 14(2)(d).

Every contract gets the red pen.

This is the first pass Redline gives every page: strike the wording that bites, note the Act in the margin, circle the date you cannot miss.

Every mark is a rule you can open in the app, with the Act and section behind it. And the paper never left your computer.

An AI agent that reads the whole contract.

The agent runs the same pipeline on your machine for every contract: read, sort, score, cite, diarise. Deterministic rules decide first. An on-device AI model weighs in only on the clauses that need judgement, and it never invents a citation.

Rules first, model second

The obvious risks are caught by deterministic rules you can open and read. The model adds one sentence of reasoning where judgement is needed.

Every flag shows its working

The rule that fired, the weight it carries, and the Act and section it touches. Nothing to take on faith.

No cloud in the loop

The engine, the statutes, and your contracts stay on your computer. It works the same with the network off.

Why Redline matters

One missed cap on liability, one auto-renewal that slipped past the notice date, and the contract you signed is the one that costs the business. Redline is the second read that never gets tired.
The clause you skim is the one that bites

Every clause gets the same scrutiny, every time, whether it is the first contract of the day or the fortieth.

Deadlines do not wait for you to remember

Renewal windows and notice periods are pulled out the moment a contract is read, with the clause they came from.

A call you can defend

Each flag names the rule that caught it and the statute it touches, so you can defend the call, not just feel it.

What you get

A full first-pass review of any contract, on your desk in minutes.

Redline does the reading, the sorting, and the citing. You keep the judgement. Here is what each contract gives you.

Scores the risk, and shows its working

Deterministic rules run first. A small on-device language model then weighs in only on watchlist clauses, with one sentence of reasoning, and never invents a citation.

Reads any contract you have

Native PDF, scanned PDF, Word, and image files. Scanned pages are read on the device, page by page. Drop a whole folder at once and watch progress in the toolbar.

Sorts 30+ clause families

Liability, indemnity, restraint of trade, force majeure, VAT treatment, voetstoots, suspensive conditions, notarial bonds, and more, each segmented and named.

Pulls every deadline forward

Renewal windows, notice periods, and auto-renewal traps land on a calendar, each linked back to the clause it came from. Nothing slips past the date.

Exports a Word redline

A track-changes redline with author and timestamp metadata, ready to send back across the table or drop straight into your matter file.

What a careful buyer asks first.

Does my contract data ever leave my computer?
No. Redline reads, scores, and stores every contract on the device, and nothing is uploaded. It reaches the network only for licence checks, a one-time activation and a brief check when the app opens, neither carrying a contract, and for the SAFLII and Government Gazette links you tap to verify a citation.
Which South African laws does Redline cover?
Thirty-five Acts, spanning the Companies Act, POPIA, the Consumer Protection Act, the LRA, the BCEA, and the VAT and Income Tax Acts, among others. The statute text is paraphrased for contract-review use and frozen at each release, and every citation links to SAFLII and the Government Gazette so you can verify the primary source before relying on it.
Does Redline give legal advice?
No. The risk scores, redlines, and statute citations are suggestions for a qualified person to review. They are not legal advice.
Which platforms does Redline run on?
Native installers for macOS on Apple Silicon and for Windows. The Windows MSI supports silent install for Group Policy, Intune, or SCCM-managed deployments.
How is Redline licensed?
Redline is sold under a short written agreement and licensed per computer. Activation is a one-time online step, and the app makes a brief licence check each time it opens. Both carry only a licence id and a device identifier, never a contract, and Redline keeps working when you are offline for a while.
What contract formats can Redline read?
Native PDFs, scanned PDFs, Word documents, and image files. Scanned pages are read on the device, page by page. You can drop a folder of contracts at once and watch progress in the toolbar.
